Pratibha Shikshan Prasarak Mandal Januna's Ghulam Nabi Azad Arts, Commerce & Science College, Barshitakli Dist-Akola.
The College is situated at Akola Barshitakli Road and close to the Kachiquda-Ajmer Railway line in spreading compound, which is a pride for the people of Barshltakli. The College was formally inaugurated on 5th Sept. 1989, on the birth day of the Great Teacher and former President of India Late Shri. S. Radhakrishnan. The College was established in June 1989 by Shri. M. R. Pawar, a social worker and educationalist who formed Pratibha Shikshan Prasarak Mandal at Januna
The Ex. Chief Minister of Maharashtra late Shri Sudhakarrao Naik inaugurated the College. It was a dream child of Principal M. R. Pawar to establish an educational institution for higher education at place like Barshitakli which is backward in all respects and most residents of which belong to minority.
The College started with 134 students and 4 Lecturers and now it has 1600 students and 70 teaching and non-teaching staff working in its own building. From its establishment college is making progress by leaps and bounds.
Within a short span of six years the Management spent 1.50 Crore to purchase land and construct building for the College. This is the only rural college in entire Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University to have such spacious ground and building, which is the proud of not only Akola District but also Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University. It is only because of the constant efforts and strong will power of the president Principal M.R.Pawar the College got permission to start Junior College in Arts & Commerce stream. MCVC programme was started in this College, to provide professional training to the youth in 1997. A junior college to provide a science education was established in Ghulam Nabi Azad Arts and Commerce College. In 1998, we started first English medium convent in the name of Late Genibai Pawar Golden Jubilee Convent in the College premises. 2006 was another landmark year for the society & the college. In the College Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Study Centre and in 2006, Pandit Nehru Study Center, Buddhist Study Centre ware established with UGC assistance and Babusingh Rathod Study Centre was started by self fund. In the same year 2008 as many as, Nine degree College teachers were provided with UGC fellowship for Minor Research Project and three faculties were provided Major Research Project. This is a very creditable achievement.
In 2007, we got permission to start Science faculty in Degree College and PG class in Music and Sociology in 2011. So the dream of our founders to bring education from KG to PG to the doors of rural Backward & Minority people became a truth.
We provide various Certificate/Diploma/Advanced Diploma courses with the UGC assistance like computer Application Diploma education, functional English, E-Commerce, Fashion Designing, Arts Drama Communication Skill in English, Information Technology and PG Diploma in Non Conventional Energy System etc for the benefit of the rural and backward students of this area. The college has also women hostel that provide free boarding & lodging to backward class students. An Indoor Stadium & Madhuban Garden adds its utility for the students.
The college takes pride in holding national seminars, Conferences, Symposia Lecturer Series etc. from time to time. The Principals’ conference organized in 2006. The Department of Commerce and Economics Organised Conference in 2007 and department of Music organized one-day workshop in the same year. Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Study center of our College has organised a one day National Level Conference in 2008 and two days National level Conference was organised by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Study center and Pandit Nehru Study Centre jointly sponsored by UGC in 2009. In 2010 International Buddhist Conference was organized jointly by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Study centre and Buddhist Study Centre. This session Nine Students from Degree College got University color Coat. One of our Junior college students was selected at National level.
For Extension activities, College has full-fledged NSS to render sacred services to society. The new College building was inaugurated by then Dy. Chief Minister Gopinathji Munde in a function it was presided over by the great holy Banjara Saint Ramrao Maharaj on 10th October 1997. From that very day, with the blessing of Maharaj the graph of College progress is going upwards continuously. The prime objective of the College is not only to provide knowledge but also to help the students to become responsible citizens. To enable ours students to adapt with new and changing circumstances several programmes are organized by Shri. Kisanraoji Pawar, Secretary of the Society and with the help of the staff of this College.
